New Year's Past
For 26 years "The New Year's Day Party" was hosted by attorney Bob Pope and Larry Konrad at their St. Pete home. The guys would bring in a circus tent for the side yard and serve a traditional Southern good luck meal of collard greens, black eyed peas & all the sides. And those Bloody Mary's OHHHH! You were lucky to find a parking space 6 blocks away. After retirement the guys sold their home and moved to a penthouse condo in Gulfport. The parties may have stopped but the memories and friendships started there, still go on today. Update on Bob & Larry they are very active at King of Peace MCC, St. Pete. We are proud to report that they are a part of the "HOT TEAM" who organized the "Homeless Outreach Project." The group raised money and gave over 1,100 blankets for the homeless. The blankets were presented to Steve Keersker, chairperson of St. Petersburg Homeless Task Force. Congrats to the Hot Team!

New Years Day
Donald Vanderboegh did it again this year! What a New Year's Day Party. With over 100 guests being catered to a great traditional meal and who was at the piano but St. Pete's own Bahama Bill. Ralph kept a close eye on Steve and Jim as they got carried away on the dance floor. Also spotted at the gala was photographer Steve French's model, and Mandate Magazine Superstar Mr. Sandy. At Don's last party he raised hundreds for A.S.A.P. Below is photo of Mark and Bahama Bill

Mark & Carrie's New Year's Day Good Luck Collard Greens & Black Eyed Peas The night before: In a very large soup pot put: 2 smoked ham hocks, 2 smoked hog jawls, 6 strips of bacon chopped, 1/4 cup salt, 1/2 cup cider vinegar, lots of hot sauce. Put 6 bunches collard green in a sink of water. Pour a glass of wine and start to drink it! Rinse well each leaf and remove & discard the stem, then chop and add to soup pot. When all greens are chopped and in the pot, fill to top of greens with water. Bring to a hard boil, stir, cover and turn off heat. let sit on stove overnight. The next day remove the meat, scrape the bones & chop the meat, then put back into greens. Later on reheat and serve. Soak the black eyed peas overnight. Rinse well next day and put into crock pot with a smoked hog jawl, bay leaf, and fill with the collard greens water. Cook 4-6 hours. Then remove the meat again, chop and put back in, then add 1 cup maple syrup. Mash lightly with a potato masher & serve over corn bread. OK one last secret tip... when you make the corn bread, replace the milk with a can of cream corn for WOW! Happy New Year! M&C Until Next Week,
