Political Candidates Forum
"Meet Your Candidates Forum" sponsored by Human Rights Campaign and Equality Florida at MCC Tampa had over 30 candidates September 28th, courting the GLBT votes in the Tampa Bay area. A full house of attendees wanting to hear what were the platforms for Circuit Judge, Hillsborough County Commission District seats, Pinellas County, Hillsborough County School Board, Florida State House of Representatives, Florida State Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives. Representatives from different state Governor campaigns were also present. Most heated of course is the Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners races with 9 candidates answering questions from the panelist moderators about their support to the GLBT community!  Moderators were Kevin Beckner of You Decide TB Forum Coordinator,  Steve Blanchard of Watermark Media, Nadine Smith Exec. Director of Equality Florida, Chris Martinez, ABC Action News Reporter and Carrie West of MC FILM. It was a "Ditto" of support "to acknowledge, promote and support 'Gay Pride' events in the county," after the present board members caused a big hornets nest in the Gay Community 2 years ago by taking an extreme negative stand on Gay Pride activities and support. High Heel Hike For Easter Seals
It was an early AM Saturday to get to Westshore Plaza and register for the Annual Jules Burt High Heel Hike benefit charity for Easter Seals. We knew there wouldn't be a lot of guy high heelers and we were right. Just a handful.  But what a statement to the many fundraising groups around us. Young and old, Wild and crazy, all had a great time. WQYK Radio had the honors of keeping everybody in step! And don't forget about the crowning of the new High Heel Queen for the year! The walk around the mall benefit had already generated $28,000 before the event walk commenced! Thank all of you for your pledges and join Jules Burt, & her Muse, and  us next year!
 
 
 
 
 
"ART For LIFE"  Bulging at the Walls
What a big undertaking. Twice the donated art, 585 pieces. Three times the attendees, 1500+ reserved tickets and 3000 at door sales. It was a most unique visual indoor experience. Artwork of all types, abstract sculptures, creative pictures, custom jewelry, circus actors and just  WOW !!! Local Caterer's Six Gourmet Food Buffets for an army and  a new major title sponsor spearheading this great 12th Annual Charity Event, Bright House Networks. Don Bentz and the Art For Life Staff have done it again. It does take a community to make an undertaking such as this a major success! The amount raised will go to St. Joseph Hospital Comprehensive Project to help in part  HIV/ AIDS research and testing. Mark & Carrie were Honorary Hosts this year and MC FILM FESTIVAL a sponsor. Pinellas Sheriff's Breaking News
At the Meet the Candidates Forum at MCC Tampa, a major breaking news item was announced. Pinellas County Sheriff James Coates announced to the crowded forum attendees that Pinellas County Sheriff's Dept will be offering Domestic Partnership Health Benefits for all their county sheriffs 3400 employees, starting this next fiscal year. The sheriffs dept. broke away from the general Pinellas County  Health Care Provider in 2005 and have their own health company carrier. "This is a major step in acknowledging a Human Rights Ordinance in Pinellas County politics," Coates said. "And it starts in our department!" Remember Your Vote Does Count!
