The Queen
Hollywood is all a buzz about the movie, "The Queen".
We decided to check it out for ourselves at the former Regency
Channel Side Theatre. If you haven't been there recently do
check it out. There is now Westshore Pizza &
complete with a liquor bar in the lobby. After seeing "The
Queen" we both agree this movie will definitely be a buzz
come Oscar Time! Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth,
Michael Sheen as Tony Blair & James Cromwell all
deserve Oscars! If you only see one movie this
season this should be it!

University of Tampa
The holiday decorations are up everywhere in Tampa. The city really out
did themselves this year. One of our must see favorites is
"Victorian Stroll" at the Henry B. Plant Museum
located inside the University of Tampa. FMI at
http://www.plantmuseum.com/events/index.shtml#stroll This year the
University decorated all the trees in the park surrounding the
"Sticks of Fire" sculpture ( did you know that the Native
American Indians word for sticks of fire is Tampa?) Be sure to work a
visit to the "Victorian Stroll" into your busy
holiday this year.

State GLBT Winter Caucus
The Winter Conference of the Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus is in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, December 2. One last task to close the book on our 2006 campaign season and to begin the journey towards capturing the White House in 2008. We have a lot planned and hope you'll join us. We'll be meeting at the Democratic Vote Center and it will be out last event there before the building is demolished to make way for the new South Florida Gay & Lesbian Community Center. It's at 1700 N. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, right across the street from the current GLCC. info@floridaglbtdemocrats.org From This Week in the Washington Blade
EDITORIAL: Queens
of denial
Bishops meet in Baltimore to demean gays yet again, raising the question: Did they party at the Hippo afterwards? DEMONSTRATING YET again just how detached they are from what’s happening in local parishes, the nation’s Catholic bishops met in Baltimore this week and affirmed their belief that homosexuality is “disordered” and that anyone in the church ministering to gay parishioners must... - KEVIN NAFF November 17, 2006

Message from Incoming TIGLFF Board President,
Christopher Constantinou

Dear Festival Friends,
Thank you Tampa Bay for another great Film Festival! This could not have been accomplished without all of you. As we close the 17th year and start planning for our 18th, we want to remind you how much your support means and to take the opportunity to bring you up to speed on next year. As many of you already know 2006 was an election year for TIGLFF board officers. The good news is that the new team is already in transition with a lot of exciting things for 2007. The bad news is that the photo above has generated some rumors that Mariruth and I are really a straight married couple - or maybe it's just our partners who have been wondering. This transition of TIGLFF President is already under way and I am proud to be given the opportunity to serve such a vibrant community at a time when there is so much potential and opportunity. I am also very glad that Mariruth is not going anywhere fast…as a matter of fact she has been voted in as a board member for another two years! Can you imagine what the world would be like if government politics worked this well? As we begin our 18th year, there are additional changes with the TIGLFF board and staff. We welcome three new board members to our ranks: Bridget Cline, Trevor Sawyer, and Hallie Whittaker. This brings the board to 11 members, making it the largest board in many years. Our board members, new and returning, are filled with talent and excitement and we are lucky to have them all. Our new interim Executive Director is Chuck Henson. He was selected for his 18 years of Festival experience as well as an incredible operations background. We welcome Chuck and look forward to a great year with him. Kathie Michael will be leaving us to return to a role with Gala Choruses and we wish her great success. We are overjoyed to announce that Roberta Marie Munroe, an award winning filmmaker with 15 years of significant Film Festival experience has accepted the position of Program Director. She has worked for Toronto, New Fest in NY, Outfest in LA and for the past five years has programmed for the Sundance Film Festival. The Festival Manager position will continue to be held by Renee Cossette. We thank Renee for her dedication and hard work. So as you can see planning for the 18th Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is well underway. As we close in on 20 years of gay and lesbian cinema in Tampa Bay we look forward to continued growth and success. We thank you for being a vital part of that success. Christopher Constantinou President Friends of the Festival, Inc PS. See you in January for the start of our 2007 Monthly Film Series
