Tampa Breaks the
"GAY" Bubble at Winter PR!DE
It was a wonderful warm spring weekend for
the 2nd Annual WINTER PR!DE
Tampa Bay. Twice is nice! The
newest location Al Lopez Park
was the setting. Woods, open grassy areas
and lots of wide open space to showcase the
Tampa Bay areas GLBT businesses, clubs,
churches, groups, politicians, bars and
entertainers. With the direction of the
Tampa Bay Business Guild
over 120 vendors courted the over 10,000
attendees. A proud moment after the flack in
years past about gay apathy in Tampa, the
previous Tampa Pride Board
and most recently the former
Hillsborough County Board Commissioners
stand on the counties "No recognition, No
Support" of Hillsborough Counties "Gay
Pride" events. ( The bully outspoken
mascara commissioner ronda storms said
"little g and little p.")
A fun day full of '"PG" rated Gay
Events' was the theme. Clown face paintings,
riding bulls, ROTC Twirlers, good
food, friendly handshaking, kissing and
hugging, all sharing the Gay Dream, "let
me be me!" And Girl did I say our gay
clan brought their pets, dogs that is! 100's
of pets ran with their happy masters.
Kevin Beckner, a candidate running
for 2008 Hillsborough County
Commission other local
Tampa City Council Candidates
running for elections this week made
appearances. Entertainers included
MC of the Stage
Suede, Double M Band, Lexi Peirson, New
Tribe, Halcyon, Una Voce Men's Chorus
and the ROTC. Some of the
people we haven't seen for a long time
Michael Sheldon (former
editor/owner of Encounter
Magazine), Ms Stephaie
Shippae (who moved up to the
Carolinas to care for her Mom), Jim
Garciga & partner, Guy
(from Jim Garciga Travel Agency
and live part year in Austin, TX),
Ken Hand of MidTown
Tavern in North Tampa.
Congratulations WINTER PR!DE EVENT
Board Planners and Volunteers. And to all
those guys and gals in blue. Wow what a
Fun Day!!!
Wow , Who's the CHEF?
"Consistency is my number 1 thing to
having a successful restaurant." are
the words from new Suncoast
Resort Flamingo Restaurant Manager,
Kathy "Kat" Frisk, who says
she is single and available. Kathy
comes to us via New Brittain, CT.
She served in the US Army 6 years and was a
Landry's Seafood Mgr.
She left the cold to venture to Key West
(too expensive to live) and now to peaceful,
quaint Gulfport ("Dykeport" as she
calls it).
"I am a workaholic and it is hard to
date but I'm available!" she throws in,
"I just love this new challenge and
career." She handles 5 line cooks and 6
severs at the 98 seat Flamingo
Restaurant. "I do
everything in the kitchen and cook most
everything from scratch, That way I know the
taste is consist." She
oversees homemade soups, salsa, marinades,
meatballs and a line of specialty deserts
made fresh daily and visits with the
hungry customers. The comments are taken to
heart. She wants the locals and visitors
alike to have a great dining experience, 7
days a week.
Kathy is very
energetic. She has a boat and loves to go
fishing, is on Gulfport Women's
Softball League, bowls on
Gay Bowling Wednesday Nights
and cares for her love of her life, an
abandoned tiger cat she adopted from
SCR named Sunny
Coaster.
The Flamingo Restaurant is
open 7 days a week with a new weekend
breakfast and late nite breakfast at 11PM -3
AM Friday and Saturday nights. Nightly
specials are very innovative and creative at
times, just to cater to the customer. New
menu entrees and added special events are in
the works, and presently offer nightly
specials.

Newest St. Pete
Gallery opens, "TRIBU Gallery"
Kevin Ritter and
John Rymer met at the
Zodiac Bar in Daytona Beach.
That was 27 years ago. They are now the
newest South St. Pete gallery owners of,
Tribu Gallery on
3660 22nd Ave South. They had lived for the
past 18 years though in Youngstown, OH.
"It was cold there so we moved south"
Rymer said. They chose the store location as
it is the newly recognized southern St.
Pete corridor to the beaches by St.
Pete Mayor Rick Baker. The fine
crafts gallery has the personal sculptures,
famous face ceramic tiles and figurines of
Ritter and Rymer. Initially
they were wholesalers of their art to garden
centers and art galleries around the
country. They also have 15 other artists
associated with the gallery. From paintings,
face ceramics, male sculptures,
precious jewelry it is a very colorful
gallery to go shopping at. There is also a
monthly 'Featured Artist'.
The gallery opened just 3 weeks ago
and offers daily lunch sandwiches, soups,
and salad specials. Along with their freshly
roasted coffees they serve. A large backyard
plant and flower garden will soon be
available for club meetings, ceremonies, and
socials. Both are members of the local
garden club. Stop in and say hi to the
guys. FMI 727-323-5412

P.M. Hospitality Night (for
fellow artists and those in
the hospitality industry that
can not make a weekend show)
is set for Monday, March 19,
2007 at 8:00 P.M.
The setting is the small town
of Independence, Iowa, the
lifelong home of Evelyn Briggs
(Lynn Locher). Her oldest
daughter, Kess (Lisa Ruzzi),
is a university professor in
Minneapolis, but she has come
home at the request of her
sister, Jo (LeAnn Chester) who
is concerned for Evelyn's
mental health. Kess, a
professed lesbian, wants to
cut her family ties once and
for all; Jo, an incurable
romantic and longtime virgin,
has now become pregnant; while
Sherry (Naomi Welsh),
salty-tongued and amoral,
wants only to finish high
school so she can leave home
for good. In the end, there is
no accommodation possible but,
instead, only a kind of
arbitrary independence for
each of the protagonists, as
they come to realize that each
must find her own heaven—or
hell—in her own way.

From Lollypop
Gates vs. GM
For all of us who feel only the deepest love
and affection for the way
computers have enhanced our lives, read on.
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill
Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and
stated,
"If GM had kept up with technology like the
computer industry has, we
would all be driving $25.00 cars that got
1,000 miles to the gallon."
In response to Bill's comments, General
Motors issued a press release
stating:
If GM had developed technology like
Microsoft, we would all be driving
cars with the following characteristics (and I
just love this part):
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would
crash........
Twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in
the road, you would have to buy
a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the
freeway for no reason. You would
have to pull to the side of the road, close
all of the windows, shut off the
car, restart it, and reopen the windows before
you could continue. For some
reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such
as a left turn would cause your
car to shut down and refuse to restart, in
which case you would have to
reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was
powered by the sun, was reliable,
five times as fast and twice as easy to drive
- but would run on only five
percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and
alternator warning lights would all be
replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed
An Illegal Operation" warning
light.
I love the next one!!!
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you
sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever,
your car would lock you out and
refuse to let you in until you simultaneously
lifted the door handle, turned
the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car
buyers would have to learn how
to drive all over again because none of the
controls would operate in the
same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button
to turn the engine off.
Please share this with your friends who love
- but sometimes hate - their
computer!
