Look what's New in Ybor City
With all the Buzz about Ybor City; New Clubs, Film Festivals & Politicians, we decided go check it out on a Saturday night for ourselves. We are excited to report that all the talk is true!  After a strategy meeting in our kitchen with Sonny & Stephen, over hamburgers, the four of us were off to Ybor on a mission! Of course we first had to pick out just the right eye glasses to wear! With Tea Cup in hand, our plan was to park across from G.  Bar then head down to Wrangler's and work our way back.

Wrangler's
Our first stop was at Wrangler's. We arrived early and were surprised to find the dance floor full of hot cowboys! This month Wrangler's are Celebrating their 1 Year Anniversary. CONGRATULATIONS! There are new & WOW drink specials to celebrate with. The Florida Gay Rodeo was going on in Ft. Lauderdale but there were plenty of cowboys here! At 11pm the club music goes to high energy dance. On Sundays there is an incredible drag show called  "The Twisted Sisters Revue" under the directorship of Ybor City's 1st Mama Miss Joey Brooks! Starring Melanie Minyon, Crystal Chambers and Daphne Ferraro this weeks special guest will be Stephanie Shippe.

One Love

Across the street from Wrangler's is a new club, One Love.  Located on the second floor above the former Blues Ship Cafe. The club is open Fri, Sat & Sunday now, but the owners are thinking of expanding the days. On Fri & Sunday the club is mostly guys and on Saturday Night it is mostly women There was definitely a mixed crowd on the Saturday Night we visited. The club promoters for Women's night, every Saturday, is the very popular  "Twirl Girl Productions." We were warmly greeted at the door by Monica and at the top of the stairs just as warmly greeted. This night there were not one but two live groups performing! Red Boy & opening act by Marce. The whole club has a warm, friendly New Orleans atmosphere. Out side there is balcony that we were having just too much fun on! Being across from Wrangler's you can check out who is going into Wrangler's and with whom! We meet the owners Karen & Chris. OK, just for the record ... Karen has a beautiful & Fab over the top, crazy fun lesbian lover Bettina and listen up guys Chris is a hottie & single! They were all fun party people. We could have easily spent the whole evening at this club, but we were off on our mission!  On your next visit to Ybor be sure and check out "One Love", We just Loved It!

G. Bar
Leaving One Love it was a short walk up 7th Ave., in cha cha heels of course, to G. Bar. The theme that night was "Night of a 100 Strippers." Well, let me tell you it was more like a "Night of a 1,000 Stripers." Everywhere you looked there were dozens of hot guys dancing. It is very easy to see how G. Bar has become so very popular. Owner, Steve Donahue said that G. Bars Lesbian Night on Fridays is just as packed! The clubs new sound & light show are the best we have ever seen in Florida! What's coming up next????? Steve & Stephen have planned some over the top fun events.   Just as Carrie was getting ready to go up on stage & ????? it was off to Flirt!

Just 2 blocks from G. Bar at 1909 N 15th St. is Flirt Night Club & Show Bar. Darlene has been in the GLBT club business in Tampa for years and does she know how to throw a Weekend Wild Party! The show starred our favorite Miss Amy Demilo www.myspace.com/amydemilo and Tasha Long, special guests & The Flirt Dancers! Flirt now has a New Web site that is one of the best we have ever seen be sure and check it out. OK, I will admit it.... things were getting a little fuzzy at this time!!! Good Night Ybor
Ybor City has gone from one club, Flirt , last several years, to a total of 4 fun clubs all in just one year! Definitely the Gay & Lesbian Night Life in Ybor is Back! After 4 incredibly fun and diverse hours of clubbing, from Cowboys at Wrangler's, to friendly lesbian's on  balconies at One Love, to Bois'' & Men dancing at G.bar,  to an incredible show at Flirt, we sure were glad that Carrie was our designated driver! We are already looking forward to our next trip to Ybor!

Barack Obama
A Sunday afternoon with over 2000 people wanting to hear Democratic Candidate Barack Obama speak at the Cuban Club in Ybor City. A lively warm up by the FAMU Marching Band out of Tallahassee excited the energetic crowd. Tampa will be having a lot of candidates in the Tampa Bay area very soon. Both Democrats and Republicans look toward the support of the Florida Corridor Area.

Premier Screening: Thursday 4/19 @ 7PM @ Cuban Club Theater, Tickets: $10.00

Screening: Sunday 4/22 1:30 PM @ Cuban Club Theater Tickets: $5.00

"A Moving Feast" is a documentary about the infancy, development and influence of independent filmmaking in the Tampa Bay area. This documentary explores the earliest days of cinema in Tampa which radiated from the hub of the Cinematography Department at the University of South Florida in the late 70's and early 80's to the technology revolution. This was a magical period of collaboration and experimentation that spawned numerous works and talent that spread across the country from San Francisco to Miami to Maine.

The Chinsegut Film/Video Conference (USF) was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Florida. The festival was a hot bed of fearless experimentation and discovery that brought scores of important and developing filmmakers, such as Les Blank, Will Hindle, Harry Horowitz, Stan Brakhage, Pat Oleszko, Charles and Ted Lyman, Nancy Cervanka, Peter Hutton and others to Tampa.

Students of the era spread the magic of cinema through independent documentaries, features and multi-media works provided to a world-wide spectrum of festivals, educational and art institutions, and major media such as Discovery Channel, Nova, National Geographic, Imax, TBS and PBS.

Victoria Jorgensen is a Tampa based filmmaker, writer, film festival organizer and business owner. She has attended the Berlin and Toronto Film Festivals annually since 1999 returning to Tampa with programming suggestions for local area film festivals.

Victoria earned a B.A. in Arts and Letters and studied post graduate Cinematography at the University of South Florida Department of Fine Arts.

A New Comedy

by Peter Mercurio

Directed by Trevor Keller

Gypsy Productions Inc. at the Suncoast Theater will open the World Premiere of Two Spoons a new edgy, heartfelt comedy by New York Playwright Peter Mercurio on April 27, 2007 at 8:00 P.M. Following the opening night performance will be a Champagne Reception with special guest Peter Mercurio, the Director and the Cast.

Two Spoons will run thru May 20, 2007 with performances Thursday (2-4-1), Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 P.M. and Sunday Matinees at 1:30 P.M. Hospitality Night (for fellow artists and those in the hospitality industry that can not make a weekend show) is set for Monday, May 07, 2007 at 8:00 P.M.

Two Spoons is about how unexpected turns can shift the direction of a relationship by either, pulling you closer, pushing you apart, or driving you crazy. All they had planned on was a few days of rest and relaxation alone. No child. No tantrums. No toys or games to pick up. But on their last night in Philadelphia, when another hotel guest cruises them, Steve and Larry engage in a different kind of pick up game—one they had never played before. With their relationship now off-balance, Steve and Larry are in uncharted territory. They must decide to either “hang together” to negotiate a “bill of rights” for themselves or “hang separately” and put the state of their union in jeopardy—all the while considering how it will affect their son, their family, and their future.

“Old boys have their playthings as do young ones; the only difference is the price.”
— Benjamin Franklin
