This is a City of Tampa Official Board and they report directly to the Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio's Office. Winter Pride Tampa Bay: A Four part article
Pre VIP Party, Before the Rain, Disaster Strikes & The Sisters Save the Day!
Here are the Stories & Photo's

The VIP Party
The board of Winter Pride sponsored a VIP Reception on Thursday, Feb 21 for sponsors and event organizers. The reception was in the very elegant lobby of the Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel located in Ybor City. The food was catered by "The Rainbow Chef", Leigh Robinson LisaRobinsonL@aol.com . The evening went off perfect with the assistance of Hotel Sales Mgr, Diva Becky Fox Becky_Fox@hilton.com . The highlight of the evening was the power point presentation of "Gay life in Tampa Bay from the 50"s to current day," presented by Rex  M. and the Rainbow In Sunshine Project. www.myspace.com/rainbowinsunshine  After the reception many of the VIP'rs walked the short block  to Lounge 714 (which is now called Club 714) to see the Famous Judy B. Goode & Paul Thomas Show. A fantastic start to a wonderful PRIDE Weekend!

Before the Rain
The WINTER PRIDE started off like many others. The volunteers were especially helpful and regimented this year. Company's, Clubs and area non-profits set up booths and displays. The  Who's Who and  Movers & Shakers were all there full of PRIDE & Anticipation. Just to name a few: cilp Film Festival, The GaYBOR District Coaliton,  TBBG, The New Bear Club, St. Pete Pride, ROTC ...

Disaster Strikes
About 11 AM Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio gave the Opening Address and Official City Proclamation. Just as she started to speak on stage it started to sprinkle. Then the skies opened and the down pour started. It came down in buckets & buckets as the grass turned into mud, ponds, rivers & more mud. People were slipping & falling while handicapped wheelchairs were stuck. The tents started to over fill with water and collapsed.  Everything in the booths became soaked including the people, pets & kids. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse.... We looked up and noticed the metal tent frames were like giant lighting rods grounded into the water everybody was standing in. We are truly blessed that no lightning struck within range! Caught in the booths were guest speakers Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita caught in candidate Kevin Beckner's tent. Tampa City Council Member Linda Saul-Sena was in between tents when one blew over. Thank goodness for the volunteers in the golf carts, Mark Nash and Bill Andersen.
Now nobody can control the weather, so it was not anybody's fault. We felt very sorry for all the hours that the PRIDE volunteers and staff had put into the event. We felt even sadder for all the vendor's & booths who lost ten's of 1,000's of dollars in sponsorships, merchandise & advertising materials.
As the rain started to slowdown 45 minutes later the true GLBT Community's PRIDE came out. People were helping their GLBT friends & strangers make it to safer places. While other people helped with the packing up and re-loading of the vehicles. We would personally like to thank the girls and Ken from MCC Tampa who helped us get our van, that was stuck in the mud, out. Let's all hope for a safer location next year.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to the Rescue!
With the Saturday PRIDE being a complete wash out the Sisters came to the rescue! Their first (and we hope annual ) "PINK Sunday Pride, Presence and Passion Fundraiser & Party." A three part, floating event that went from 11:30 am to 3:am. A huge Thank You to the Sisters for putting a smile back on our faces! With every Photo being worth a hundred words, here are the 3 part events.

Pride Patio BBQ Brunch - 11:30AM till 3:30PM
Located in South Tampa, City Side, hosted the patio BBQ and morning brunch. It was quite the spread. Truly worth a worth divine blessing!  The staff were all dressed in Pink shirts and the cocktails were not only Fab,as always, but came with Pink Napkins! Thank You City Side, for not only helping the Sisters but understanding  the importance of putting Unity in Community!

Presence T-Dance - 4PM till 9:30PM
Sandi & Alan K. opened up the former GLBT Icon Club,  El Goya - Tracks - Pleasure Dome & now Czars for the Sister's. What an incredible, full of GLBT History Club! Today the Grand Dam is even more beautiful than before with a very upscale Russian feel. Once the music started it was a huge old fashion T-Dance. Up on stage were dozen of performers.

Passion After Party - 10PM till 3AM
Across the street in GaYBOR to Club 714. Can your believe the Sister's still had energy to Party!!! It seems that by this time the word of the Fab first two parties had spread and everybody was here!!!

Clip Film Festival and The University of South Florida

Work to create GLBT Film Archives.

February 18, 2008 –Tampa, FL – Clip Film Festival is proud to announce a special partnership with the University of South Florida to celebrate 19 years of GLBT cinema in Tampa Bay.  At a recent meeting, Director of the Florida Studies Center & Special Collections Department, Dr. Mark Greenberg and Clip Executive Director, Chuck Henson discussed the project, which will include gathering items of significant history from the Pride Film Festival, Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and Clip Film Festival.

The University is hoping to create GLBT archives of international significance, and that process begins right here in Tampa Bay.   Gathering collections from the major, long-term and culturally significant community organizations and publications is included in the University’s first effort to create these archives.  With nearly 19 years of history, the film festival was an obvious selection as a partner for Greenberg.   Additionally, representatives from Gazette and Womyn’s Words publications have been contacted and have agreed to participate.  Watermark will also be on the initial contact list.

“Now the hard work will begin.” according to Clip Executive Director Chuck Henson.  “A concerted effort to reach out to our community for festival program guides, posters, fliers, and other items of significance to the history of our event will be started.   The Film Festival could not be more proud to be partnering with USF on this project. ”   Festival Manager, Renee Cossette, in a comment on the collection process said, “We have 19 years of history out there in the community.  The office archives are very limited.  As is the case with many organizations of this nature, much of the history lies with the previous Directors, Programmers and key volunteers – likely in their homes.”

A special Clip Outreach Program on the history of Gay and Lesbian Cinema will be scheduled on campus at USF in conjunction with clip 19 (The Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival) to celebrate the GLBT Archives.

If you have items from Film Festival, or Tampa Bay GLBT History you would like to see as part of this special USF Archive Collection, contact Dr. Greenberg at 813-974-4141, or via email at mgreenbe@lib.usf.edu

Dr. Greenberg has published and lectured extensively on immigrant/ethnic history in the southern United States. His articles appear in American Jewish History, American Jewish Archives, and The Georgia Historical Quarterly. In 2006 he co-edited Jewish Roots in Southern Soil: A New History (Brandeis University Press) and authored University of South Florida: The First Fifty Years (University of South Florida).   Greenberg's areas of subject expertise include southern and immigrant/ethnic history (especially southern Jewish history), Florida history, USF history, and oral history.   He directs the Library's Oral History Program, oversees Digital Collections, and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Tampa Bay History Center.

Friends Of The Festival, Inc. is a non-profit organization, which produces the annual Clip Film Festival (Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival), Clip Film Series, and Clip Film Outreach in Tampa Bay.  Since 1990, the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival has showcased compelling film and video that entertains, enlightens and celebrates its audience. In so doing, it has become a vital part of Tampa Bay's cultural landscape and one of the largest gay and lesbian film festivals in the country.  clip 19 (The Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival) will take place from October 2-12, 2008.

From Larry & Alex
Hi guys It's Larry Buzzeo.  Unfortunately I'm writing to send you some very bad news. Alex
> and I just found out yesterday that Peter Silvagio has passed away. The
> obituary is in St Pete times 2/20 . Just stated that he had been ill for a
> long time. Don't really know the cause of death. We have some beautiful pics
> of him would love if you could post a memorial on your site. Alex and I
> loved him dearly and unfortunately had a falling out. Out of stubbornness and
> stupidity we never got a chance to make things right. luckily we decided to
> bring him a gift after a few years of not speaking to him this Christmas so
> we did get one last hug. I just didn't know it would be the last. Thank you

MC Film will always remember Peter with his big smile and GREAT Italian cookies he made every Holiday. Also the time when he was the first paramedic to the scene, at the Suncoast Resort after a suicide. Peter was all business like, then pulled us to side to quickly catch me up on all the Gay Dish!  We will miss you Peter!
