A Crazy Saturday Night in Tampa Bay
A simple night out turned crazy again! So what's new? Relaxing on our night off at Lounge 714 , we decided to check out the new club Partner's Sports Bar & Cafe located at 2924 5th Ave. North in St. Petersburg. The new club is owned by Alain & Emerson Grainger, old Suncoast Resort party animals. What a fun addition to the St. Pete eateries & club scene. A very Talented Chef 'The Rainbow Chef Lisa Robinson' and handsome sous chef Jeremy Morris. Sexy & Famous Bartenders new Daddy...Kevin & Chris offering great drink specials. The newly decorated walls are custom designed carpet with the gay colors that glow in the blacklight! Congratulations Gang and Welcome! Next stop was the newly remodeled Detours where we were greeted by baretenders Mark S. & Kevin at the front bar. They were busy sprucing up the club getting ready for St. Pete Pride next month. It was a packed house with old friends we haven't seen in some time. On our way to Sporter's Bar we remembered that Miss Mary Ann had here 84' vessel docked in the St. Pete Yacht Club. Thinking it might be to late, we gave her a call. "Too late!" she said .... "no way", she had a gay party going on! She has a new boat slip with a great view of The Pier. Mary Ann told us about her new yacht to be delivered in October. Bigger is always Better! We definitly agree with that! Just then we got a call from St. Pete PRIDE that Comedian Christine O'Leary from Showtime & Logo was in GaYBOR & wanted us to show her around. But wait we had one more stop in St. Pete, SPORTER's! We walked in and Sir Grahmn & owner Mike literally had men swinging (or was that tied?) from the ceilings!!! With a new cell block in the back of the bar & who parked their motorcycle over the pool table! Out came the calendar and before we knew it were we were marking dates out for parties! Wednesday, May 21 The St. Pete Bears are coming to Lounge 714 / THE FORGE for a Bear Beer Bust. Saturday June, 21st MC Film, Lounge 714 & GaYBOR will be coming to Sporters to bartend for their AIDs benefit there! It looks like Sporter's in St. Pete & Lounge 714 - The Forge have become kissing cousin clubs!
Back over the bridge to GaYBOR where we met the enterouge of St. Pete Pride Board Members with celebrity comedian Christine O'Leary at The New Flirt Night Club inside the Honey Pot on 7th Ave. Inside club mgr. Ernie (If only we were 30 years younger!!!! Ernie is one very hot nice guy!) gave us the VIP treatment. The Club even opened the 3rd floor balcony to give the guests the best view of 7th Ave. in GaYBOR! We had a great time a perfect nite out and then went across the street to the new Copa Ybor @ The Mixx for Joey Brooks 1am show. Joey had 6 performing guests in the new venue show! At the closing Joey called Christine up to the stage where she gave an impromptu show herself ! The packed house of party goers went nuts!!! Natasha Richards had to make sure that The Twat Sisters, who were serving shots were behaving. Out into the crowded 7th Ave we walked past our favorite New York, New York Pizza. The smell was inticing! It was on to G.BAR were the contagious party music had everybody up & feeling great! Then the dreaded evening party crasher. Lights started to appear overhead! Our last stop? NO way it was time for a quarter pounder cheeseburger at McDonald's before heading home. Both sides of Tampa Bay are such a fun time!

Bobby Smith, SHE was One Great Man !!!
The world has lost one of the best persons we had ever encountered. Bobby Smith lived his life in Tampa. He was a she in the real world but Bobby always knew that he was a boy living in a girls body. The many years of knowing Bobby and spouse 'Miss Kay " Thompson was really a treat. He inspired so many people and was comfortable in being Bobby! Some of the many things that Bobby accomplished and is known for is being a founding member of MCC Tampa. A landmark in the south, making and helping to build a church for all inclusive gay christians. Some gays attended to search their own beliefs, while others were bannned from their church that they were raised and had no other place to go to mediatate. Mostly formed for GLBT members it was worldly in spirit and the pulse of Tampa's community. That was its beginnings,1972. Bobby was a prankster, a founder of many organizations in Tampa and shared his love of working to make this great ol' world a better place. Bobby and Kay were a celebrated Lesbian couple in the March on Washington. in 1984. Always in support of GLBT causes. Bobby was 83 years old in passing.

It's not that the word "she" offended [Bobby Smith]. He didn't hide the truth if someone asked. He was physically always a woman.
"It's amazing, even in his baby pictures, he looks like a boy," said Smith's friend, Derald Gingerich. "I think if there was ever a case for a man inside a woman's body, it was Bobby."
"I've always liked boy's clothes," Smith told the St. Petersburg Times in 1992. "I didn't go to college because I would have had to wear a dress. But I took a look in the mirror and said, 'You can go and make it big in the world, or you can be at peace with yourself and eat beans.'"

We asked Sandi, Club Rubenesque Owner/Founder, What BBW stood for? Here is her response.
BBW is an acronym for Big Beautiful Women!! We are also a BHM club which stands for Big Handsome Men! and of course our lovers or admirers! We are considered another alternative and our members are str8t, gay, lesbian, bi and honey you name it!...lol.
As long as you have love for persons of size then its an all acceptance party regardless of your age, race, sexual orientation!! We were recently featured by creative loafing's Alex Pickett (The Urban Explorer) under A Big Night out on page 3. At the time we were at The Chambers, but now its been sold and we have moved to the upstairs level of the Honey Pot and are truly excited for the history making move for us big folks. As always we do our best to represent the Big Sexy People with themed events and show all that we are all the same as anyone else socially!!
This looks like a FUN Club and Welcome addition to The GaYBOR District.

Big changes in Style, Attitude, & Line up at Lounge 714 & THE FORGE!!! When walking in the very first big change you will notice is the huge art wall. Made up of 16 separate painting this art work has many subliminal messages! Artist Bernardo Diaz created the paintings in his NYC Studio www.bernardodiaz.com . His inspiration came from watching the Lounge 714 YouTube Concerts! The back patio has been redone now with more privacy and entrance to the naughty alley. Downstairs in the Forge you will find a new urinal, new a/c & the Hottest MEN in Leather. The pool hall is a work in progress. Behind the bar are New, Fun, Sexy & Surprising Bartenders!

Hey GaYBOR and Tampa Bay Leather Men and Our Admirers!!
On Saturday, May 17th, we're having Pedro's Send-off Party to Chicago as he travels to compete in International Mr. Leather over Memorial Day Weekend. He's worked real hard since becoming Mr. Gulf Coast Florida Leather 2008 last November and now's the time to show him our appreciation and wish him well. We think he'll be a K-N-O-C-K-O-U-T!!! We'll start out the evening at Streetcar Charlies for cocktails at 9, then move to SPURS at 10:30. We'll end our celebration at The Forge beginning at midnight.

Stageworks, honored as one of three Florida Theaters by the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs in the 2007-08 season as an NEA American Masterpieces Program recipient, proudly presents: Brighton Beach Memoirs. The American Masterpieces program—a new effort of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)—celebrates the extraordinary and rich evolution of the arts in the United States across many disciplines. An outgrowth of the national program invests in the development of arts in partnership with the mission and strategic plans of state arts agencies through a proposal process. Through this pilot program from the NEA, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs assists Professional Theaters to extend outreach education and performance of significant Masterworks in innovative ways, both in their immediate communities, and in their geographic region.
Brighton Beach Memoirs plays at the Shimberg Playhouse located in: Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center 1010 N. W.C. MacInnes Place Tampa, FL 33602 Opening May 15 and running from Thursdays to Sunday until June 1st.
