This week Democratic Barack Obama announced that they will be opening the Florida State Headquarters for his campaign  in Historic Ybor City,  the heart of GaYBOR District! No matter what your political affiliations is, whether gay or straight, or what side of the bay you live on...... This is great News! Great for our economy. Great PR for Tampa Bay & for the GaYBOR District.  There have already been many debates about his coming.   Below is a very interesting point of view from Patrick Manteiga editor of La Gaceta, the nations only tri-lingual newspaper.  www.lagacetanewspaper.com   Barack Obama's headquarters will be located in a historical landmark building in Ybor City that was one of the Latin community's mutual aid societies. John McCain's local headquarters is on ritzy Bayshore Boulevard in a high rise condominium, which has far too many unoccupied units because of the mortgage crisis. Obama's headquarters is located in a symbol of the immigrant struggle in an area of diversity. McCain's is located in a symbol of the mortgage crisis in a building that's for the rich and is exclusive. How fitting.  Ybor City will get an economic boost by Obama using the old Big City Tavern as his campaign headquarters. The site will draw hundreds of worker and volunteer. The workshop is designed to help directors, actors and technicians better understand the challenges of staging a play or musical.   Topics include conceiving the production, casting the production and staging the event. The language, manners, and functions of the director will be explored. The class is limited to twelve participants. The class will be presented over two days: Saturday, August 2, from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with a lunch break, and Sunday, August 3, from Noon until 4 p.m.   The class will be held at 801 Main Street, Safety Harbor, Florida. Tuition is $200.00   This workshop will be taught by Elizabeth Spicer, Producing Director of the Paradise Acting Company. Ms. Spicer has staged over two hundred plays and musicals. She holds an M.F.A. in Acting and Directing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
