Matthew Shepherd, Already 10 Years Have Past
but His Hate Crime Death is Not Silenced......
In observance of the ten years since the murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard, the Matthew Shepard Foundation launched an aggressive anti-hate campaign aimed at creating a movement of people working to lessen the impact of hate in society. Realizing the importance of this 10th year observance, Judy Shepard, Executive Director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, launched the ‘Campaign to Erase Hate’ by asking the crowd of more than 500 people to raise themselves to the power of ten and join with her in helping the Foundation fulfill its mission of erasing hate.
The overall goal of this new campaign is to equip individuals with the necessary tools to discuss and address hate in our society. These tools include personal webpages, resources on dealing with hateful speech and actions, monthly correspondence and most importantly, a way to invite ten others to join.

A lot of GLBT political groups across the country and theatre groups are performing
"The Laramie Project" this month in honoring and remembering Matthew Shepherd.

The 1st Annual Miss Florida F.I. GaYBOR Pageant
The Honey Pot was transformed into a Wonderful Classy Outside Cabaret Show Club under the direction of set-club designer to the stars Mathieu Stanoch. The stage was draped in formal black & white curtains. 4 full size Ybor Streetlights on stage & main bar top. The tables were all in red with flower centerpieces from "Island Florist" floating in the center on mirrors & accented with Champaign glasses & rainbow cystals. The club ouners & staff had pulled out all the stops for this event! The show organizer, Toby Brees, welcomed the 400+ number of guests and introduced the Host & MC, Natasha Richards. A parade of former Miss Floridas floaded the stage, including; Amy Demilo, Bobby Lake, Lakesha Lucky, Jocelyn Summers, Simplicity Heart, Joey Brooks, Stephanie Shippie' & Esme Rusell. The current Miss Florida F.I., Victoria Michaels then performed. Then it was time for the unforgettable pageant. The introduction of the 3 very qualified contestants in PRESENTATION/ EVENING GOWN. Contestant #1 Alisa Sumers, Contestant #2 Nicki Summers, Contestant #3 Robyn Demornay. Over the following course of the evening the contestants all competed in SWIMSUIT, TALENT & Q&A. All the former Miss Florida's performed. Miss Florida Pageant F.I. owner Victor from Boardwalk in Ft Lauderdale was in the center of impersonation activity. Also guest hosting were Miss Ybor City Miss Joey Brooks & Amy Demilo.
All three of the contestants were very qualified and would make GaYBOR very Proud.

Vice- President Debates
Mr. or Ms. Vice-President
The vice presidential debate, the only one being held between contenders of the Obama- Biden and McCain-Palin presidential race, was a close one. We were joined as were many at the Don Vincente Hotel in Ybor City where 400-500 political groupies young & old, White, Hispanic & Black straight & gay all watched the Biden- Palin debate together. The large HD television projection 12' screen had all in awe, wonder and hope. The debate was another round of informative events that lead to ones quandary of who will be the next President of the United States. A big job to whomever it will be. TV crews pathed their way through the packed house of political experts for hometown opinions. We enjoyed the change & difference of the sole TV in front of the 2 of us being at home. I think we just needed the change in seeing reactions and express the frustration that we all hold about our weak economy, our housing financial woes and to make sure that what we have worked so hard for in securing our castles isn't taken away from us by greedy Wall Street MBA's. The Iraq war, personal rights & freedoms, fair GLBT rights, Supreme Court Justices, over priced gas at the pumps, whewww we need to make the right decision and FAST!
It is OUR Country at stake! If you haven't registered to vote in Florida it is to late. The last day to have registered was October 6th. But volunteer to work with whom you believe is right. Two candidates we ran into that night, Kevin Beckner running for Hillsborough County Board of Commissioners - A Great Choice. And savvy Stephen Gorham running for Hillsborough School Board. The debates were creative, inspiring and yet specific. Debates are about capturing your hearts to decide " Are they really right for you?" Early voting starts next week so don't miss out! Now, it is our time to make changes and vote!
The debate was best summed up by New York Times Op- Bob Herbert

Tampa Bay Business Guild EXPO Businesses to Customer
Part of the clip Film Festival is the Tampa Bay Business Guild EXPO across the street from Tampa Theatre. The wide range of clubs, services and businesses come together for the unified show. It turned out to be a great fall Sunday with art displayed booths outside and clubs and businesses inside TECO Plaza. Over 70 GLBT companies supplied info and goodies to the roaming audience. Lawyers, coffee roasters, massage therapist, Bed & Breakfasts, to new book authors and singing choruses. Of course what is a film festival without the mega horn religious zealots. Prepared was bartender Billy from G. Bar with the newest Martha Stewart Cook Book and shouldered with his ultra sport mega shouter to convert the bad taste fanatics to good tasting recipes. Well, this year he can say he saved his batteries!

October; GLBT History Month From Wikipedia
In the United States
LGBT History Month originated in the United States and was first celebrated in 1994. It was founded by Missouri high-school history teacher Rodney Wilson. Among early supporters and members of the first coordinating committee were Kevin Jennings of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN); Kevin Boyer of Gerber/Hart Gay and Lesbian Library and Archives in Chicago; Paul Varnell, writer for the Windy City Times; Torey Wilson, Chicago area teacher; Johnda Boyce, women's studies major at Columbus State University and Jessea Greenman of UC-Berkeley. Many gay and lesbian organizations supported the concept early on. In 1995, the NEA (National Education Association) indicated support of LGBT History Month as well as other history months by resolution at its General Assembly.
October was chosen by Wilson as the month for the celebration because National Coming Out Day already was established as a widely known event, on October 11, and October commemorated the first march on Washington by LGBT people in 1979. LGBT History Month is intended to encourage honesty and openness about being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
While it was first known as Lesbian and Gay History Month, the Coordinating Committee soon added "Bisexual" to the title. It has subsequently become known as LGBT History Month.
On June 2, 2000, President Bill Clinton declared June 2000 "Gay & Lesbian Pride Month".

THE LEATHER MASKED BALL ® ANNUAL CHARITY EVENT RETURNS TO PURGATORY WITH CELEBRITY DJS, ENTERTAINMENT.
The Leather Masked Ball ® has been South Florida’s Premier Leather Charity Event for the past two years and is putting Fort Lauderdale on Leather World’s map. This year the event returns to Purgatory and proceeds will benefit Tuesday's Angels and Leather Archives & Museum.
This year LMB III features sought after international celebrity DJ and Remixer Sin Morera, fresh from the Black and Blue Leather Ball in Montreal.
“Sin is huge in the New York music scene as a DJ/ Remixer and a producer and we are very happy to present him at a South Florida event” said Bill Hoeppner, LMB Chairman and Bound South President.
The renowned DJ Robbie Leslie will open the evening with nostalgic and contemporary favorites mixed to please the crowds the way he’s done since his days at Studio 54.
DJ Jeffrey Jacobs will keep his silky sounds going in the VIP Room throughout the evening.
Entertainer Cyon Flare will perform his new Maxi Single “Everybody, Everybody” in his signature style of Performance Art.
Thousands of dollars of donated goods and services will be sold at silent auction.
According to Hoeppner, “We’ll have all of that plus some of the Hottest Leather Men on the Planet. You can be sure this is not just another monthly leather party.”
Last year over 800 of the hottest leather men from around the world took home a little bit piece of Fort Lauderdale and nearly $20,000 was raised for charity.
Leather/Gear/Fetish attire requested. This year LMB III returns to Purgatory, 1000 St. Road 84, Fort Lauderdale (formerly known as Uncles, The Saint, The Stud). The event takes place on Friday, November 28, 2008 from 8:00 PM until 3 AM.
Online Tickets can be purchased at www.boundsouth.com. Tickets are currently available at both Leatherwerks locations and Trapezoid Antiques and Artisan Gallery on Wilton Drive. Advance tickets are $35 VIP, $25 General Admission.
Organizers stress that The Leather Masked Ball ® is a charity event. This year the proceeds of this Bound South benefit go to Tuesday’s Angels and The Leather Archives & Museum. Both Tuesday’s Angels and The Leather Archives & Museum will have staff volunteers and information regarding their organizations available through out the evening.
Community partners and sponsors that have stepped up to provide support and funding include RECON, Slammer, Inn Leather, Leatherwerks, Poplife Designs, Ira C. Smith, Eastside Management, Ramrod Leather/Levi Bar, Oakland Park Dental, All Temp Air Conditioning, Inc., M4M Leather, MenOver30.com, , The Law Office of Arthur B. Hello there.
My name is Okesene Tilo and I organized the Square One Art, Fashion & Music Showcase called GO! that took place at The RITZ Ybor in May of this year. I just wanted to e-mail you information about the next Square One Creative Event called Virgin 2.0 that will be taking place once again at The RITZ Ybor. Virgin 2.0 will be a catered evening of live entertainment, performances, fashion and will benefit The National Breast Cancer Foundation. Virgin 2.0 will also feature the works of over 85 local artists and a performance by dance students from The University of Tampa.
As with GO!, Virgin 2.0 is completely free to attend and open to the general public of all ages. I am hoping that this event will continue what GO! successfully did: bringing the community together and drawing more attention to Ybor City as an artistic district of Tampa.
Attached, please find the first promotional images for Virgin 2.0. I will send you the official press release towards the end of this month.
Additionally, I would like to register Square One Creative LLC as member of the Gaybor Coalition. I will be mailing in membership registration fees to McFilm very soon.
Thank you so much and I will keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Okie
