Commissioner Carrie West
Carrie West, President of the GaYBOR District Coalition, was recently sworn in as a Commissioner on the Tampa "Barrio Latino Commission".  The BLC has the responsibility of preserving the historic fabric of the District and maintaining its architectural integrity.  The Ybor City Historic District has many character defining features:  pedestrian scale, mixed-use main streets, as well as its unique structures such as the Social Clubs and Cigar Factory buildings.  The Barrio Latino Commission balances the historic past with the growth of the present prosperity.  Congratulations to Carrie & Our Community!
 
 
 
 
Miss Florida U S of A
Bob Taylor did it again! He has consistently raised the bar in protectionism in the pageant world! The Miss Florida US of A Pageant was very elegant, classy and over the top! Held at The Honey Pot in GaYBOR, 5 contestants were in the pageant. A surpise to many a former Miss Florida, Cloe Cabrera was actually in the audieance. She is now working as a reporter for the Tampa Tribune. A Night out with Dianne & Sharon
Who said you can't teach an old dog (I heard that you said...old Queen!) a new trick!!! We tried to keep up with Dianne & Sharon on a Wild Mr Toads Ride thru Ybor City Saturday Night! Starting at MC Film it was off to check out the Moulin Rouge can can dancers at the new restaurant, L' Olivier's. After their OK it was off to Streetcar Charlie's for dinner on the trolley line. On our way to G.Bar, only in GaYBOR would the police stop you just to have a photo taken with them!  Then over to The Rare Olive for the Twirl Girl Event. As we were leaving who do we run into on 7th Ave. but... The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They were out doing bar & street ministry so we followed them back to Streetcar Charlie's before heading off to Czars. Leaving Czars it was across the street to G.BAR for the pre Miss Florida US of A Party!

Doesn't the NFL realize that Florida's #1 industry is tourism? Our state ranks the highest in the nation for politest & friendly hospitality! YUP, Tampa Bay We are the BEST in Friendliness!!! We are genuine friendly & nice people. We have worked several of the Super Bowls in Tampa before. It is not the good people of Tampa Bay that are rude. It is the drunken, out of control, disrespectful visiting football fans. Who think that just because we live in the south there are no rules here. As they go on to; trash our parks & public spaces, vandalize private property, aggressively drive, urinate & vomit in public & bring many people to tears with rudeness nasty behavior. YES, we do appreciate them being here and supporting our economy. We understand this all goes along with tourism. We are also PROFESIONALS and know how to handle these unfortunate people & situations. We suggest next year the NFL spend the money on teaching your fans how to be polite, respectful guests. So with that we step off our soap box and say....

How could providing health care benefits to the families of Hillsborough County’s employees threaten any system of values that is worthy of the name?

I know you will be responsive to the basic needs of Hillsborough County’s families and that commonsense will prevail in the context of this debate.

OBITUARY

 

 
Troy Edward Clark
CLARK, Troy Edward, 37, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Powhatan, died January 17, 2009. He was an active member of the SAC Suppers. He is survived by his partner, Doug Goodman, of Tampa; his parents, Ada and Andy Clark; brother, Jonathan Paul (Tammy) Clark, all of Cumberland; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and devoted friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. (Rte. 60), Powhatan, where funeral services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. Interment Grove Cemetery.

Avast and Ahoy ye mateys, soundin' me bosun's pipe. I do hope ye all will be comin' aboard for a delightful and delicious Brunch on The Captain's Table at Gaspar's Grotto. Startin' this Sunday, January 18, 2009. Sorry fer the late notice, but I been up to me pits in horns waggle. I been makin’ me patio pretty fer ye all to enjoy the bright n’ sunny days.

 

HOWEVER, I shall be assuaged. Fer this is goin' to be the most fun 'n outrageous brunch ever concocted. I'm expectin' some o' me pyrate friends to be makin' the rounds, there may even be a bit of sword play. Aside from that it will also be the best tastin' 'n thirst quenchin’ brunch ye ever et as well.

 

Since I think of me establishment as a ship, we will be takin' a Booze Cruise. The imbibements shall flow. At me command I'm havein' the crew prepare to be passin' unlimited bottles of Champagne and any concoction ye can think of made with that stuff, all as a part of the deal. ALSO included will be a carafe, measurin' 3 (naturally fluid) ounces of the potato drink, VODKA. With which ye can construct yer favorite morin' after the night before adult beverage. A choice selection of mixes ‘n juices guaranteed to keep ye scurvy free will be on the mixin' table. PLEASE BE REPONSIBLE. If ye plan on getting' plastered, have a designated Captain to get yer pitiful self back to the home port.

 

NOW, Let me tell ye a little bit about the delicaseseas 'n morsels you'll be gnawin' on. SEAFOOD, can't get enough of that meself, havin' been on and in the sea so often. We'll be havin' Crabs, several varieties, lobster tails, shrimp, oysters, 'n a few other things I can't think of at the moment. All you can eat of that stuff too. There will be glorious 'n exotic salads, over flowin with tasty things ye probably never even thought of eatin'. How ‘bout a Wild Rice Pistachio, Orange Salad, jest to name one of the greener treats.  Cheeses 'n pastries 'n other things from bakeries spread about fer yer enjoyment.  
 

THEN, ye if ye can still swallow, yer order from the kitchen will come to ye. Naturally, the nicest omelets with the ingredients of yer choice. Pancakes to perfection, filled with fancy surprises. Huevos Rancheros or a breakfast burrito. May be you’ll want some Grits loaded up with me JUMBO shrimp, seasoned like ye never had ‘em, but wish ye did.  

 Ahhh matey’s there’s jest too much to tell ye all about. So come down ‘n see fer yerselves. A paltry $29.95 fer a pirates feast like no other. I’m already feelin’ plundered.  Every week we’ll be havin’ a surprise or two fer ye that ye haven’t seen before. So be there as the clock strikes 11 and the corks start poppin’ every Sunday, rain or shine.
