A Walk Down Super Bowl 's 7th Ave. in Ybor
The Pittsburgh Steelers came to Super Bowl XLIII with a steel workers pace. Fast and furious. In Ybor City the streets were in super party mode ready for the visiting teams to fuse their cold weathered fury of the north with the Arizona Cardinals calmness from the warm out  West. Tampa and the area were ready for the battling title visitors. From streets spruced up & cleaned, celebrity parties clambering, local & national food events, NFL Experience, Happy local faces, restaurants & bars over staffed and traffic congestion. Tampa Bay turned on the spot lights and was ready! We had Fox Networks " Best Damn Sports Show " broadcasting Live right next door to our store in Ybor City. An we can't miss mentioning  the NBC's Today Show with over-the-top weatherman Al Roker broadcasting Live at our side. Oh so many of you saw us in our pirate outfits at 7 AM!!! The all so many celebrity parties included Players & Coaches Brunches & Golf Tourneys , AE Madon's Bowl, Maxim's Celebrity Party, Janet Jackson & Friends Social... just so many to cover. Yes, a year of preparation and a week of putting it all together for the world to see our beauty and hospitality.
THIS, is TAMPA BAY!!!

The Patron Tequila Express
On our way to work as we passed by the Tampa train terminal we couldn't believe our eyes. There was the Patron Tequila Express. We parked the car and walked up to get a close photo when the unbelievable happened. Mr. Chris Shaffer invited us inside for a closer hands on look! The private car is owned by John Paul DeJoria, who owns the Patron Spirits Company, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Car # 50 was built in 1927, and it’s decked out in intricate oriental wood carvings and original 14th-century Gothic art. DeJoria uses it for personal travel (the train has hosted the likes of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Clark Gable, and Sen. Huey P. Long) and for promotional events for Patron.

Super Time with Celebs as Private Super Parties Wale
A lot of celebs were at Rock-n-Sports Bar & Grille in Ybor City. for the Welcome Host Party. Hosting an event that only the "Damn Best Sport Show" on Fox Sports Networks could have. Included in the list of celebs of course was the hosts,  Chris Rose and John Smalley. The Super Guests included  Derrick Brooks, Ray Lewis, Michael Strahan, Michael Irvin, Joe Theismann, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Hasselback, and Jared the Subway Guy. Also were former Oakland Raiders Jonathan Ogden, Buc Quarterback Jeff Garcia and Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Roockie MVP Player. We were lucky enough to get some great shots with a lot of them.

GaYBOR on the Today Show
What would get us up at 4:30AM? Al Roker from NBC Today Show! We arrived at Teatros in Centro Ybor, dressed as pirates at 6 am and helped make the coffee. Owner chef Bill was on preparing coffee con leche for Al on TV. A half an hour later the camera guys told us where to stand for the best chance to be on TV. It Worked! Al was on the balcony of Teatro and we were across on the balcony to the Canteen! In all we had the GaYBOR banner on TV 3 times and a couple time the pirates made it too! The Mademoiselles & Monsieur's from L' Olivier French Bistro & Cabaret join us on the sidewalk as the whole crowd became one huge party! Mayor Pam Iorio was on the show giving them a honorary plate of the city. Afterwards we had a change to talk with Pam. Then off to breakfast!

Al Roker of the NBC 'Today' show gave his weather report from Ybor City on Thursday morning. The above photo was take from a TV screen. Sorry about the poor quality.  If you look over Al's shoulder you will see the GaYBOR sign.

Sawmill Campground
Comedy weekend at the Sawmill Campground, what a good reason to get out of Tampa! Our friends Don & Garland who live there asked us to join them at the Sawmill home of Al & Chuck. When we asked  the house number Al laughed and said "Just look for the lighted tree!"  We thought that was a little strange but OMG nobody could miss this tree!!! Decorated for the holidays, the tree has 1,000 & 1,000's of bright led white & blue lights! Al & friends has spent the day in the kitchen working on a very impressive dinner party. Over the top fabulous Al served his guest 3 sample bowls of his home made soups on  festive personal individual serving platters. After the dinner party it was off to Woody's for the "laughing Out Loud, Comedy Weekend". In the Sawmill style, the guys fired up the golf carts and off in the cold trails we went!  The headliner was Judy B. Goode & Paul Thomas. Opening the night for Judy was Florida native Amy Dingler.  A former rodeo clown, bull fighter and stunt person who is now switching to stand-up comedy. Her show was like being in the locker room of a women's basketball team!  We are sure you will be hearing the name again soon! Judy & Paul took the stage and held the audience cheering for more for over 1 hour. Then performed 6 encores!!! The room was cleared for dancing the night away. Outside there were huge bon fires and people having a great time trying to stay warm and cozy. The hospitably of the Sawmill staff was exceptional! Yes they have cabins, motor home spaces and a lot of tents filled the peripheral spaces . It was cold out!!! The one thing that always amazes us are the stars in the skies. Away from the city lights, the sky is full of  millions of bright stars. Almost as many fun memories made at the Sawmill!

Mark & Carrie Celebrate 31 Anniversary
WOW.... how time goes by so very fast! It seam like yesterday. We were dancing to Disco and had 29 inch waists!!! To celebrate this year we decided to have a simple celebration with good friends and at one of our favorite clubs. We went to the Cattlemen's Restaurant on 34th street in St. Pete with Donald & Bryan. It was also The King & I Thai Restaurant owner Bryan's birthday. After a great meal it was off to Georgie's Alibi.  Drag Queen BINGO was in full swing and the anniversary/birthday drinks too. The top give-a-way were tickets to the B-52's Concert in Orlando. The drag show was headlined by Natasha Richards

More Grand Openings with Tampa's COPA
The Grand Opening of The Copa was a smashing success. With double header shows the girls had to wade their way thru the mass of revelers all 3 opening nights! The local star Diva cast is made up of Joey Brooks, Crystal Chambers, Joselyn Summers, and Robin D'Mornet and special performing guest Natasha Richards . The Dream Girls of Tampa had a standing applause as they appeared on the smokey hazed velvet stage both Friday & Sat. nights. Opening Grand Week started with the one and only Judy B. Goode with Paul Thomas  on piano performing plus every Thursday at 7:00. The Grand opening is still continued with the weekend Dream Girls Revue. And finished with Sunday nite Super Bowl Party. Copa is on North Armenia Ave just south of MLK Blvd.

Winter Pride Tampa Bay's 2009 Festival Officially Canceled

Dear Winter Pride Tampa Bay Friends and Supporters

With deep regret we must announce Winter Pride Tampa Bay's February 28th. 2009 "PRIDE IN THE PARK" Festival has been officially cancelled. The much needed funds required to cover the costs of holding a successful Pride Festival for Tampa, just weren't available this year. With  the country's economy being what it is, this has adversely impacted our local economy as well. Our expo vendors, businesses, sponsors, and supporters, whom WPTB has relied on in the past, found it difficult to support our cause this year. We apologize for the delay in making this announcement, however, the last minute miracle we hoped would present itself, did not appear.

All of us are extremely disappointed that we are unable to uphold the tradition of Tampa Bay's Family Pride Festival started 2006. WPTB remains dedicated to continuing our efforts towards keeping this this tradition alive and well for our community in the coming years. We're confident with time and support from our community, we'll be more than able to hold an even bigger and better Winter Pride Tampa Bay's Pride Festival in 2010.

We ask that you help us with spreading the word on this sad news.

    Sincerely
    Winter Pride Tampa Bay

Florida’s Biggest and Best Pride Event…
AND THIS YEAR THERE ARE MORE REASONS THAN EVER TO INCLUDE YOUR BUSINESS OR ORGANIZATION IN THE COMMEMORATIVE PRIDE PROGRAM.
St Pete Pride is in full swing. This year as we celebrate the 7th Annual Pride in Paradise Event and the Stonewall Riots mark its 40th anniversary, this is your opportunity to have your business or organization in front of potentially 85,000 attendees of this years 2009 Pride Events and Festival. This 8 X 11 Glossy-Slick magazine has been the talk of the town in years past and complimenting coffee tables throughout Florida. Only once per year is this is this commemorative Pride Program produced and distributed. Making it more than a pride guide, it is a commemorative collector’s item, representing St. Petersburg and all of Florida's LGBT History.

The 2009 St. Pete Pride Program will be created by Watermark, Tampa Bay’s award-winning LGBT newspaper, and a longtime sponsor of St. Pete Pride. With a full-time creative staff, Watermark will introduce sophisticated design elements to the program. Watermark editorial staff will contribute stories and information that will make the program a more readable keepsake, including: a look at what makes St. Petersburg so fabulous; profiles of local residents; a history of gay St. Pete; a guide to local businesses, restaurants and attractions; maps and a complete schedule of events. This is an annual program that is referred to throughout the year. 25,000 programs will be printed and will be available by May 28, 2009, a full four weeks before St. Pete Pride 2009.

The St. Pete Pride Commemorative program will be available at each of Watermark’s more than 400 distributions sites throughout Tampa Bay, as well as Orlando and Sarasota. 8000 copies will be distributed at Disney for Gay Days. Programs will also be available at all St. Pete Pride events leading up to and at the parade and street fair on Saturday, June 28 – expected to draw up to 85,000 people! Your ad in the 2009 St. Pete Pride Program tells gay and gay-friendly readers that you specifically want to do business with them. With a median household income of close to $80,000, the Wall Street Journal has described the LGBT community as “the dream market.” So don’t miss this rare opportunity to target the local LGBT community. Join other advertisers and sponsors, including (list of a dozen or so high-profile advertisers), and be part of the 2009 St. Pete Pride Program.

From the Kitchen of Mark & Carrie
Our crazy Sister Cheryll is always making up new recipes. Some are Great & some are ..... Here is one that is rapidly becoming one of our favorite comfort foods. You start with a box of "Walmart Dirty Rice". We have tried other ones but the Walmart brand is the very best. On the box directions you start with browning 1# hamburger then add rice, water & cook. Sister Cheryll's variation is to use 1# of ground lamb instead. WOW is this great! Now were have been trying other things to add like leftover beef & chicken, vegetables etc. A quick dinner in 20 minutes! Give it a try & enjoy. M&C

    A New Business

    Dear Mark and Carrie,

I receive your e-mail every week and always look forward to it, you do a wonderful job keeping us "in the loop!"
My mother and I are starting a new business and would like to know if you could possibly post our website in your newsletters?
I am still working on our website but all of the information regarding our products and services is already
on there, I have a few photos on there now but not all of them. My parents owned a restaurant on 7th Avenue in Ybor City for 15 years and my mother
was born and raised there! So, we have a history with Ybor and think the whole Gaybor movement is such a terrific step in
the right direction for both the city and the district, offering a promising and diverse future for Ybor City.
We know how many people read your newsletter every week and anything you can do to assist us in this new endeavor would be very appreciated.
You can check us out at: www.boxtgourmet.com
We look forward to hearing from you soon.

International Mr. Gay International Campaign Moves to Manila

San Francisco, CA. – February 2, 2009 – For the first time since it was founded in 2005, the International Mr. Gay (IMG) Competition moves from its Southern California base to the Philippines. Founder Don Spradlin announced that the IMG will now be produced in a different country every year to help spread the word that ‘gay is not a stereotype.’

Bright lights, red carpets, and photographers all around– that’s what’s in store for 20 sexy, intelligent, globally conscious, and physically fit men as they arrive in Manila to represent countries including France, India, Brazil and Russia in a 4-day competition to discover who will be named International Mr. Gay (IMG) 2009. Now in its Fourth year, the IMG Grand Finale & Awards Gala takes place over the weekend of May 30, 2009.

From brains to braun, the 2009 Delegates will be judged during indoor/outdoor contests and on-stage judge’s interviews at the Grand Finale. Rehearsals, photo shoots and fundraising events round out the weekend, which is a benefit for the Noble Beast Foundation.

The competition searches beyond looks and abs to identify one man with the individual charisma and intelligence to serve as a successful spokesman and role model in confronting gay stereotypes. It is a not-so-subtle assault on the limitations imposed by the ‘gay stereotype’ that is used by the homophobic press to define all gay people.

Who will be the next gay Ambassador? When event producer Don Spradlin envisioned a contest where one man could be named Mr. Gay, he did so with the hopes of creating a broadly entertaining event series. “When people think of a competitions involving attractive people, they automatically think ‘reality show.’ We can produce an entertaining competition, but our purpose is to look for the real person underneath the glitz by including factors such as intelligence, community involvement and the winner’s ability as a spokesman. Our competition is about finding an Ambassador who will be speadking out for equal rights world-wide.”

The list of Awards given at the International Mr. Gay (IMG) Competition include:
International Mr. Gay 2009; International Mr. Congeniality 2009 (voted by fellow Delegates); International Mr. Photogenic 2009; Most Popular (the Delegate who wins the online vote) and the Philanthropy Award for the Delegate who raises the most money to support the mission of the Noble Beast Foundation.

The IMG is the longest running International Mr. Gay event series and is produced annually by the Noble Beast Foundation, a USA nonprofit 501(c)(3) which depends on donations to support the Foundation’s Mission www.NobleBeast.org. That mission is to “Advocate International Equal Rights by confirming the essential nature and contributions of gay men to a healthy society where gay is not a stereotype..”

You can find event details and last-minute Competition updates, along with photos of the 2009 Delegates at www.mrgaycompetition.com. Don Spradlin, cell 415-608-7414

    Laughing Out Loud Comedy Weekend

Sawmill Camping Resort in Dade City (between Tampa & Orlando) present their "Laughing Out Loud Comedy Weekend" 1/30 – 2/1 with Improv Comedy on Friday night and the following fabulous comediennes on Saturday evening:

Judy B. Goode, To quote John Chambrone of the Gazette, "she is a zany, whacky performer who I truly enjoy watching every chance I get.  Part cabaret, this little tsunami is all entertaining".  Judy's impersonations are absolutely hysterical.

Amy Dingler, a former rodeo clown, bull fighter and stunt person who decided to move on to something more risky and switched to stand-up comedy.  Amy is funny, likeable and edgy all at the same time.

Other weekend highlights include Bingo & 50/50 on Friday, DJ Rob's dance hits and remixes in Woody's and DJ Jeff's Crockpot of Country Music in the Courtyard on Friday & Saturday nights, a heated Clothing Optional Pool (weather permitting) drink specials, scrumptious food, and a fabulous SUPERBOWL PARTY on Sunday night.  Buy a drink, receive a square in our "FOR PRIZES" Football Pool"!

The Fun Never Stops at Sawmill Camping Resort with activities 365 days per year.  Reserve your cabin, RV or tent site now or visit on a day or evening pass. Need a long weekend?
