A 5 Day Weekend in GaYBOR
OK it's more like a 6 day weekend! Starting Wednesday at L' Olivier's Bistro & Cabaret happy hour there was a special party of the Crew of Cavaliers. Included in the group were members & guest of the Flamingo Auto Group who were in town for a car show. Thursday are off the chain at The Ybor Social Club with the Judy B. Goode & Paul Thomas Happy Hour Show. Special guest bartender is Tea Cup!!! Later is college night with Miss Joey Brooks. On Friday & Saturday night MAD Theater did a special production at Streetcar Charlie's. There was standing room only! At Steam Friday's the crowd started to heat up early by midnight it was wall to wall HOT Bois! Poor Tea Cup, after a very long exhausting day, was caught cat napping on the VIP Lounge couch!  Saturday Night sports fans filled Rock-n-Sports. There were several bands at The Crowbar. At Spurs is the best Saturday Night kareoke. At the second show at L' Olivier's was a wild party. Everybody was dressed up in wigs and 70's fashion. You just can't walk pas The Reservior with out stopping in to say "Hi" to Momma! The smell of Pizza from new York New York drew us in for a slice. The line for Tease Saturdays was forming. Into G.Bar we ran into groups from Atlanta trying to starts travel Packages to GaYBOR. Sunday it's T-Dance at 5 Hot locations; Streetcar Charlie's, L' Olivier's, G.BAR,  Spurs & The Social. Brunch starts at Streetcar Charlie's. There was also a going away party there for Dave Culter of the Hillsborough County GLBTA Caucus. The party at G.BAR was just plain Naughty!!!! I promised not to say any more!  Monday's are our day off. A trip to St. Pete to see old friends was in the plans. Everybody ended up at Georgie's Alibi. Then off to our favorite Viet Namese restaurant Pho 97 on 34th Street.  WOW what a crazy 6 day weekend!
 
People are Talking
6 different groups were spotted in Ybor scouting out new locations for bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels, shops & more. 2 from Atlanta, 3 from South Fl and 1 from California. It will be interesting to see who opens first! The former Chambers is rumored to have been sold. There is a grassroots effort under way to open a doggie park in Ybor  - "Parke de Perros." The Ybor Eagle & The Ybor Resort & Spa will both be opening soon in Ybor. Bryan Tim were caught checking out the old lock down room at the resort.  Over in St. Pete there have been many changes made at Pepperz. Everything from new sound & lights to new staff. Mary Ann's new yacht "The Miz Scarlett" has been causing quite the stir. Yes that is a Smart car on the upper deck! Parked next to the bar!!! You just got a love Mary Ann! At Georgie's KC had just returned from a trip to Dallas. Cowboys a hoedown.  Bryan from the King & I Restaurant is planning on taking a group to Thailand in May. Bill Mc Laughlin has started a new GLBT Safari to Africa. www.onceinalifetimesafari.com

 Roman Gardens... Yumm'e
  Right in the middle of Grand Central District is another one of those great places to mangiare ! Roman Gardens Ristorante & Pizzeria located at 2462 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. Just walking inside the door you are greeted by Sicilian and Italian spices sparking your nose to great heights. You will find inside campy dining or great at this time of year outside service and umbrella tables. The pies are cooked in a brick oven and the sauces are all hand me down secret family recipes. Just try to ask the chef for the ingredients!  St. Pete Pride is coming up June 27th and the parade goes right in front of there pizzeria.. Stop by way before that and say hi to the crew.  The sweet proprietario, Paege Chafin is also the Italian executive chef. I'm hungry just writing this....One hotta cheese & basil pizza ...comin' up!

So 'Boy About Town' & 'Main Squeeze' were out about town (get the play on words) and we bumped into George & Scott who were planning on spending George's 40 something birthday watching Nina Flowers, from Logo's RuPaul's Drag Race, do what she does at a bar called G Bar. So off we go with Ms. Jackie, Megan and a the whole lights and camera set up! G Bar (no relation to G Lounge in NYC) is in the Ybor neighborhood of Tampa & this was my first time in the charming, vibrant up and coming area! Okay, Boy About Town has partied at Heaven in London, danced the night away at Queen in Paris, passed out at Twilo in NYC and ruled over the velvet rope at Liquid on SoBe! The point of that stroll down the sketchy path of my past was to tell you G Bar rivaled all those club of such fame. From the moment our posse rolled into the fabulous VIP section & settled in, DJ Greg Anderson kept the dance at the edge of frenzied anticipation! The crowd was a great mix of hunky muscle boys, all American girls next story & punks with fab attitude oozing from every pore. The brainchild of Steve Moss & Steve Donahue, the 2 Steve's, G Bar has found the perfect balance between small nieghborhood bar & super club. Congrads to the whole fabulous team at G Bar! If you are anywhere in the Tampa area make Ybor must on your to do list! Watch for Boys Buzz upcoming travel blog as Boy About Town & Misty Eyez spend a day & night living it up in Ybor!!!

Who Remembers Dr. Paul Bearer & Creature Feature?
There is a new MySpace just for Dr. Paul Bearer!!! His Horror Show was on local independent TV station Channel 44 every Saturday from 1973 until his death in 1995. Viewers could frequent see 'Dr. Bearer' driving his black Cadillac Hearse along Gandy Blvd. This site has photos & stories about Dr. Paul Bearer you will enjoy. I am now an Internationally awarded artist.
I have recently been juried into the

  BRAVE... School district launches website promoting 'gay' pride in classrooms

Under the stated intent of making schools "safer" for all students, the San Francisco Unified School District has launched a website - believed to be the first of its kind - that provides resources designed to "meet the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth" in its schools.
"April is Gay Pride Celebration!" touts the website's home page. "Check out some of the event options in our 'Host an Activity' section."
In addition to the "Host an Activity" section, loaded with suggestions on how teachers can celebrate Gay Pride Month in their classrooms, the website includes dozens of resources, including district policies on sexual expression and discrimination issues, curriculum for teaching on LDBTQ issues, a list of district-approved speakers and presentations, studies, and testimonials from school officials on how they're making their schools more friendly to LGBTQ students.
Susan, a school nurse from Burton High School, for example, explains the steps her school is taking:
"Probably the most fun activity that we've organized and I think the most informative for the students is what we call the Rainbow Café," writes Susan. "One week during Gay Pride Month ... we have a room that's set aside and there are snacks. The [Gay-Straight Alliance] has usually chosen a topic, and each day at lunch there's a speaker on a different topic. So Monday might be gays in the military, Tuesday might be gay parents, the next day might be gays and religion, and then it might be legislating civil rights for gays. We usually culminate the week with a Day of Silence. We've asked teachers to give extra credit to allow kids to come who wouldn't normally come. But because they get extra credit, kids who wouldn't be exposed to this kind of programming will be taught to think about it.
"Another fun activity we do at the high school level," Susan continues, "is we bring the New Conservatory Theater every year to perform 'The Other Side of the Closet.' Students then have an opportunity to hold a discussion afterward. It's fabulous."
When asked about challenges she faces in creating an "equally safe, equally loving, equally equal environment" in schools, Susan responded, "I think any time you talk about youth relative to sexuality, and sexual behaviors, there are barriers to overcome - whether they're personal barriers or family barriers or whether they are barriers within the schools. ... But I don't think they're insurmountable. We always manage to either cross over them or get around them."
Susan joins 16 other teachers and administrators from around the district, explaining how they use materials and activities like those listed on the site "to create a safer climate for LGBTQ students and their families."
