Happy 19th Year Anniversary City Side
I guess when you're having fun time passes by very quickly! It seems like yesterday that City Side opened down on Neptune Ave.! The 19 year anniversary theme was Black & Blue. There were literally 1,000's of balloons! The staff, entertainers & guests were all dressed to impress in their finest Black & Blue. The Saturday night entertainment was Double M  Band www.doublemband.com and Sandy Moody with Pianoman Paul Thomas & Peter. HOTspots Magazine came up from Ft. Lauderdale for the event. International German photographer Henning von Berg www.henning-von-berg.com  was just one of the many celebrities spotted that night! Of course "Dishing with Mark & Carrie" were there too!!!  We all wish City Side many more years!!!!

And now let's all sing "The City Side Song"!
The bottles at City Side go,
round and round
round and round
round and round
The bottles at City Side go,
All Night Long!!!

Intl Photographer visits GaYBOR
Henning von Berg is not the name you would know this famous male capturing photographer but his pictures will. One of his first captured images was selected for the anthology book " Exposed -A Celebration of the Male Nude from 90 of the Worlds's Greatest Photographers." His images are in some 400 publications on 4 continents. He told me in his German accent "my  favorite places to photograph are in Africa and love desert imagery. The deserts are so mind soothing." Henning is on a U.S. gallery tour and  his works were presented for the preview party at Gallery Live in Ybor City. Amidst the gallery showing of Salvador Dali art, Henning took pictures of some new aspiring models in the Dali egg! There was a great attendance at the Wine & Cheese Soiree for the international photographer and was sponsored by Hotspots Magazine & Gallery Live. We took him to City Side to meet the Jimmie's for their 19th anniversary later that night.

Praise the Lord, Pass the Biscuits
The head chef at Streetcar Charlie's, Darlene, has done it again! What an incredible idea.... A wonderful southern brunch with Gospel Singing, hand clapping, foot stomping  Drag Queens! The buffet was a religious experience. From the prime rib & turkey carving stations, fried green tomatoes, shrimp, biscuits & much more to the incredible deserts!!!  The staff and many of the guests all wore their finest Sunday bonnets! When Miss Alicia Markstone came down the isle, with her chorus, you knew it was time to sit up, pay attention and give her a Hallelujah  Amen.

This is an experience not to be missed!!!

New GLBT Restaurant Opening
Good morning(well, it's still morning somewhere) Mark & Carrie,
One of the local couples who have actively run parties & clubs for a little over 30 years are opening up a new place down at the corner of Busch Blvd & 275. You may remember the oldest restaurant there, the Matterhorn. After that, it was a succession of jamaican/reggae/hip-hop clubs, all of which went the unfortunate way of all clubs that can't keep their outdoors quiet in residential neighborhoods. The place has fantastic parking if you know your patrons will keep it non-threatening-looking to the locals.
So David & Nita Romeo are opening up an alternative-lifestyle friendly restaurant/club. (Always have to do the gov. thing of selling as much food as you do alcohol) They've named it AltPathway. It's been soft-opened for about a week, now. They are a lovely couple (swinger&fetish, if we must have categories)
This coming Saturday, May 23, is their "Fetish" themed Grand Opening. I'll be bodypainting 3 young people & hope to entertain the guests. I'd be very happy to see you again if you have time to visit that evening! Not quite the same as being the Blood Countess for the Tampa Historical Society like the last time I saw you, but still! On June 6, they open up the first Trans evening; repeating each 1st Saturday of the month. I understand they're currently looking for performers; if any of your friends are looking for friendly, new places to perform, you might send them to Altpathway.com to talk to David.
Be well & have a happy week!
yours,
 Cat Camp

The Tampa / Brandon Gay Couples Meetup Group
Hi Carrie....

Ed and I met you yesterday briefly and told you about the gay club event to be held this Friday, 5/22 at Club Ultra on Lumsden Road in Brandon, Fl. As there are no gay clubs in the Brandon area, the Tampa-Brandon Gay Couples Meetup Group is promoting this event. This group is strictly a social group that is free to all members and promotes new bonds and friendships for coupled gays in the Hillsborough area. We plan many activities and socials throughout the year. Our website is:http://gaycouples.meetup.com/24/

Thanks,
Erik Bole

Dear Friends,

The owner of "Club Ultra" in Brandon has expressed interest in reaching out to the GLBT & Friends community. In this effort, we are sending you this invitation to request the honor of your presence on Friday, May 22nd starting at 9pm ET for the first hosting.  There will be no cover charge. The goal is to generate interest, develop a location in the Brandon area which is Gay Friendly and of course have a great time and meet new friends. Good music, nice atmosphere and a fun time will be the order of the night. The club would like to make this a recurring theme. Please spread the word to friends and acquaintances to support this effort. Hope to see you there.

St. Pete Pride Looking for Volunteers
Hey Carrie, I was wondering if you might be able to blast your e mail list asking for people to sign up for volunteering this year for Pride.  You did it last year and it helped out quite a bit! Here is the direct link to the volunteer sign up page on our website if you can.http://www.stpetepride.com/volunteer/Volunteer-Online-Application

St. Pete Pride Offers a Forum
The following letter was sent out today to Ford, Wagman, Bennett, Foster, Gibbons and Williams. We culled our list from those who had filed paperwork with the clerks office and would have the ability to qualify for the ballot.  If other candidates get in the race and wish to be considered we will look at them on a case by case basis.
Dave Schauer
St. Pete Pride Board

"As I am sure that you may know by now, St Pete Pride, the largest not-for profit GLBT event in Florida, will be held on June 27th, 2009.  St. Pete Pride will bring in 70,000 people to St. Petersburg on Saturday. As part of the official functions for that week St. Pete Pride and King of Peace Metropolitan Community Church have partnered to present a Mayoral forum and debate on Monday, June 22nd 2009. The debate will begin at 6:30 pm at King of Peace at 3150 5th Ave N in St. Petersburg. It will be followed at 8:30 by a reception for all candidates for City office at 8:30.
As you may know the City of St. Petersburg has been very receptive to the GLBT community over the past few years but the Mayor has never attended a public function of St. Pete Pride despite the substantial financial benefit to the city from our events. It is our hope that we can open a dialogue with all the city officers’ current and future to ensure that the GLBT community is recognized for their contribution to our community and not used as tool to divide the city.

To that end we would like to invite you to take part in the debate and forum. Rev. Dr. Candace Shultis, Pastor of King of Peace MCC, will moderate the debate. We will follow up shortly with the rules and format for the debate. Any questions can be directed to David Schauer of the St. Pete Pride Board of Directors at 727-688-8283.

Sincerely,

David Schauer"

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Video of Press Conference (opens in a new window)
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY NEWS CONFERENCE
May 14, 2009

Hillsborough County Doubles Pet-Friendly Shelters

Hillsborough County Animal Services announced today the locations of two additional public pet-friendly evacuation shelters, bringing the total number to four in Hillsborough County:
Burnett Middle School, 1010 N. Kingsway Road in Seffner
Sickles High, 7950 Gunn Hwy. in Tampa
NEW * Bartels Middle School, 9020 Imperial Oak Blvd. in Tampa
NEW * Shields Middle School, 15732 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin

These public pet friendly are located adjacent to existing Red Cross shelters. Pet owners must:
  • Take shelter on location (no drop-offs), but in separate quarters
  • Keep their pets' rabies vaccination current
  • Bring supplies and carriers whenever possible
  • Help care for pets during their stay
Public pet-friendly shelters will accept dogs, cats, and other "household pets" (no reptiles, insects or exotics). They are first-come, first-served and reservations are not accepted in advance. Residents are encouraged to make plans elsewhere and think of ALL public shelters as a last resort - whether they be for people or pets!
Accompanied by Animal Services Director Bill Armstrong, Commissioner Rose Ferlita spoke during today's announcement about the importance of emergency preparedness and the cooperation of community members to comply with the federal Pets Act. After Hurricane Katrina, legislation was passed requiring communities to make provisions for pets during disasters so residents do not risk personal safety in order to remain with their companion animals.
As hurricane season approaches, supplies and volunteers are needed now to prepare pet-friendly evacuation shelters in Hillsborough County. Tax-deductible donations may be made to the County's local disaster response organization, the non-profit Community of Hillsborough Animal & Agricultural Response Team (CHAART).
Animal lovers who enjoy serving the community are also urged to volunteer for potential pet-shelter duty, and basic training will be provided. To learn more, log onto www.chaart.org or call Hillsborough County Animal Services.
For more information on storm preparedness or the County's pet-friendly shelters, residents should call 813-744-5660 or log onto www.hillsboroughcounty.org .

Cooking Classes from the Taco Bus!!!
Hola:

I'd like to invite you to a cooking class I'm going to be doing at the wonderful kitchen of the Rollin Pin Store in Brandon. Is fresh Mexican food for a Hot summer. The class is Friday May 22nd.  Here is the link to make reservations:

Here it's the class menu:

Drinks: Pineapple and Cantaloupe "Water". Before Kool-aide and sodas, there were lemonades and other real fruit based drinks, full of flavor, vitamins and minerals among other goodies. Bright and colorful is surprisingly easy and delicious. You might have tried the pineapple water at the Taco Bus, see how we do it and try the cantaloupe water, it will blow your mind.

Appetizer: Seafood Guacamole with Crabmeat and Roasted Garlic. Think of crab cakes and shrimp "salpicon" with guacamole sauce, but brighter and no butter. Pass the chips.

Fish Coarse: Fresh and Cool Ceviche: Citrus marinated grouper, tossed with mango, jicama, scallions, cilantro and habanero sauce, with tostadas and marinated red onions (cebollas moradas en escabeche)  the kind of appetizer for a hot day on the beach.

Main Coarse: Fish Taco Baja Style: Grouper in a beer batter, with all the fresh veggies of a taco and two salsas; (we'll make both salsas at the class,) one with chile de arbol tangy, spicy and sour, and the other white creamy and cooling, they balance each other.

Dessert: Mango and Lime Mexican Street Vendor Style Sorbets with little chile powder on top.

This is a DEMONSTRATION Style Class.

I hope you join us, we'll have a great time
