AJA, Tampa's Newest Wednesday Night Hotspot!!!
The destination, Channelside to go and see the newest venue on Wednesday nights, AJA Lounge. A short walk away from the parking garage, AJA Lounge is located on the first floor in the western most round condo at Towers at Channelside. A large outdoor setting had people congregate and some I hadn't seen for years come out of the woodwork. Yet more modern modeled and designed bars were inside. A full range of professional types and all dressed to the newest "T"! Most definitely, a business attire dress code was implied. New gay night promoter is bar manager from former Flirt,  Mike Hammond and AJA Lounge owner, Robert Solomon put on quite the show in one of the most impressive designed bars in Tampa. Tri-level, white, very open and low sitting modern furniture. The very clean streamlines and separate bars created a fun VIP experience. Not open yet for a year, this was a packed house on a usually slow Wednesday night.  Entertainers Faith & Guests  appeared to the packed house. Square One proudly announces MAGNUM OPUS, the fourth Square One Creative Event, that will take place between 7pm and midnight on Saturday, November 14th, 2009 at The RITZ Ybor in Tampa, Florida.
 
MAGNUM OPUS will revolve around the ecological themes of creation and self-preservation.  New themed artwork by Blue Lucy, Christopher Michael Zenger, Gary Randall, Gina Rathbun, J.Alfonso, Jason Moriarty, Jedd Lancaster, Jeff Cinco, Kat Wilson, Katy Alderman, KLAAREN, Linda Alexander, Mary Martinez, Matt Moore, Melia, Melissa Fair, Nelani Palomino, Robert Wegmann, Rory O'Neil and Warren Gibson will debut at the event.  Over 75 local artists will be on display with all artwork available for purchase by the general public.
 
Show times for the MAGNUM OPUS stage shows will take place at 8pm and 10pm and will feature original performances by Bella Danza (Artistic Director: Maria Capitano Pardo), Enigma Dance Kru, Kinetic Dance Group, a Wear To The Tear Fashion Show, Jeremy Gloff and more.

Jeremy Gloff will hold an album release party and performance for his upcoming 15th studio album, 21st Century Love Songs, in the side Royal Room at 9pm.

MAGNUM OPUS will be open to the general public of all ages.  There will be an optional $1.00 donation at the doors of the event.  V.I.P. Tables and Reserved Seats will be made available for purchase via RSVP@squareoneflorida.com.

The first promotional image photo for MAGNUM OPUS was shot by Jason Moriarty, Managing Director for Square One.  Jason will be performing at MAGNUM OPUS with the Kinetic Dance Group, last seen at May's La Di Da event.  Art Design for MAGNUM OPUS was created by Christopher Michael Zenger, a resident graphic designer for Square One who will be showcasing his work at the event.

Square One operates in Tampa, Florida and New York City, NY offering creative and professional services that include event planning, graphic design, marketing, public relations, photography and custom artwork.

Square One's last Creative Event, La Di Da, saw a record 2,400 individuals in attendance.  Previous Square One Creative Events include La Di Da (05.31.09), Virgin 2.0 (12.06.08) and GO! (05.30.08).  Other previous Square One events include the Bentley Salon's AMF Hair Show 2009 (04.19.08), Ryan Prado SHOT Me! Stageworks Theatre Presents the Important Play, My Children! My Africa!

 

My Children! My Africa! by Athol Fugard examines the power of learning and the potency of words, ideas and hope in a time of heightened political and social unrest. Mr. M., a dedicated black teacher in a segregated township, is determined to pair his most gifted student with an enthusiastic white schoolgirl in an English literature competition. As the drilling for the competition advances and growing public resistance leads to school boycotts, friendships become colored by impassioned debates, and the three characters struggle to find understanding amidst South Africa’s racial and social divides.  The issues of peaceful resistance and debate versus violence as a means to produce social change continue to raise questions that endure today, despite the collapse of the apartheid system.

 

 The cast: LEROY MITCHELL, JR. (Mr. M.) returns to Stageworks Theatre and playwright Athol Fugard in this production of  My Children! My Africa!  His first appearance in an Athol Fugard work was in Stageworks Theatre’s Master Harold and the Boys (Sam). Since then he counts numerous productions of Master Harold and the Boys and My Children! My Africa!, along with  A Lesson from Aloes.  Leory Mitchell, Jr. is a member of Actor’s Equity Association.

 

Joshua Goff:  (Thami) is a Stageworks Theatre resident artist.  Most recently, he has been seen in Stageworks Theatre’s main stage productions of Lobby Hero, Frozen, The Miser and Medea.  He has toured for 5 years in Stageworks Theatre’s “African American Greats” program for public secondary at-risk schools and is currently in a three year tour of Pow!r Play, an energy conservation play commissioned and sponsored by Tampa Electric Co.  He is also an artist/coach in the Stageworks Theatre YEA Anger Management workshops for at-risk and DJJ youth.  Last year Josh was also seen in Jobsite’s Embedded.

 

Dahlia Legault (Isabel) another of Stageworks Theatre’s resident artists recently appeared as one of the four leads in Stageworks Theatre’s highly acclaimed Shining City.  She is a soon-to-be graduate at the University of South Florida, where she has played a variety of roles, to include Petrucchio in Taming of the Shrew and her most recent role, Amelia Young in Bobby and the Chimps.
